Team Data

Team Data is involved in the daily operations of the club. The main tasks & responsibilities lay around player recruitment, match analysis, performance analysis and player development, but the team also supports the business side (e.g. ticketing, food & beverage).

In order to effectively contribute in all these areas, the team is responsible for the whole analytics process, starting from extracting the raw data from different sources, up until providing insights to the people in the club through proprietary analytics platforms.

The Role

We are hiring a data engineer on a full-time basis. We are looking for someone who is either based in the Netherlands or is willing to move, since we believe that being at the club is vital for the communication and collaboration with the people on the ground.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and further development of the data systems in the cloud, with the goal to provide the tools and infrastructure necessary for the data science activities within the club.

Tasks

Lead the enhancement and maintenance of our data systems, including PostgreSQL databases and Dagster workflows
Work closely with our data science team, providing tools and infrastructure necessary for data analysis and statistical modelling
Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, promoting best practices in software engineering
Serve as a mentor and leader in technology, inspiring the team and promoting a learning environment that values curiosity and innovation.

Skills, Experience & Personal characteristics

A degree in (Data) Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Self-taught individuals with a demonstrable skill set are also encouraged to apply
Professional experience in data engineering, ideally within a sports context (preferred but not mandatory)
Proficiency in SQL, with a good understanding of database management, optimization and orchestration
Experience with managing large datasets in a cloud environment
Excellent Python skills, emphasizing software engineering principles relevant to data engineering and data science
Experience with Git and GitHub Actions for efficient version control and CI/CD
Knowledge of cloud systems and administration like AWS, with an eye towards innovation in sports analytics
Independent and pro-active worker with strong problem-solving skills and self-organising capabilities
Attention to detail to ensure the best possible quality of data
Excellent communication skills, capable of driving technical excellence and innovation within a sports context
Fluent in Dutch and/or English (spoken & written)
